I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want.  Philippians 4:12 (NIV)

 

APPLICATIONS IN DAILY LIFE

 

Let me share with you an occasion of my own personal experience and an article from the Internet.

 

The first one is an important life and death situation. When I graduated from the school and entered the job market, I was very unhappy and dissatisfied with my career life. I changed many jobs and got stuck here and there. I felt sort of always at the valleys, depressed and confused. Suddenly, my beloved father was diagnosed with cancer and passed away in a few months. Only then did I realize how happy I should have been with a healthy, comforting father at home. All the setbacks in jobs instantaneously became simply peanuts compared to the presence of a deeply loving and beloved family member. Why wasn't I content in any and every situation before?

 

The second one is an article from the internet. It runs as follows: There are many things we fail to realize the true value of until they are missing from our lives. You do not realize how vital your cell phone is to your life until you have to go days without it. People say you don’t know what you’ve got until it's gone. Truth is, you knew what you had, you just never thought you’d lose it. When people break up, it’s common to regret it. You end the relationship because you can think you can do better, but once you’re out there in the dating world, you realize you had something amazing. Appreciate what you have before it becomes what you had. Too many times people don’t realize what they have because they are out there looking for something better. Everyone falls into the trap that the grass is always greener on the other side. Don’t take things for granted because they might not be there tomorrow. People constantly want something more, something new, but sometimes the most valuable things are what have been with us at all times. Happiness will never come to those who fail to appreciate what they already have. So, be content in any and every situation.​
