The ALCOHOL AND DRUG ADDICTION PROGRAM (ADAP) at Living By The Word Ministries was founded in 2002 by First Lady Donise Dillard to educate the people about the dangers of substance abuse, to assist the abuser in obtaining freedom from addiction, and to offer spiritual therapy and ongoing support to the abuser and his/her family members.

This program provides a bible-based avenue for deliverance from substance abuse through the anointing of the Holy Spirit and by the application of God’s Word. It is a self-sufficient outreach of the church and is supported by the freewill offerings of the participants. Our program is based on the 12 Principles.

All workers and leaders are volunteers and, as such, must have Ministries of Helps status at Living By The Word Ministries. (Ministries of Helps status means that a person has been a member for one full year from the date of being accepted into church membership, having received Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, filled with the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in tongues, and baptized in water. In addition, such persons must be men and women of the highest moral standards who have been free for at least one full year from smoking, drinking, and any illicit sexual activity before being accepted into any of the Ministries of Helps Auxiliaries at the church. )

Twelve Principles To Victory Over Alcohol And Drug Abuse

1. Recognize that you must stop drinking and using drugs and acknowledge and accept that you cannot control using alcohol or drugs on your own or in your own power. (Rom. 3:23, Matt. 6.33, John 3:16, and I Tim. 2:1-5)

2. Learn to believe that God can and will help you live a sober lifestyle through Jesus Christ. (Eph. 1:2 1, Phil. 2:9, Rom. 10:13-1 7, III John 2, Acts 1:8, II Tim. 1:7 and Joel 2:25)

3. Make a quality decision to let God have complete control over your life through the dictates of His Word. (Matt. 6:24-34, I Peter 5:7, John 10:27-29, John 4:13-14, and Isaiah 54:17)

4. Mentally examine yourself and on paper list ways you can change your behavioral pattern. (Psalm 139:23-24 and I Cor. 11:28)

5. Pray to God in the Name of Jesus and ask Him to give you the strength to help you correct your wrongs and not be ashamed to confess your faults to others. (Psalm 51:3, I John 1:9, Psalm 32:5, James 5:16, and II Tim. 3:16)

6. Thank God and praise Him for helping you remove these challenges. (Nehemiah 9:16-17, Isaiah 6:5-7, Psalm 86:5, Psalm 103:2-3 & 12. and I Cor. 5:17)

7. Humble yourself before God and thank Him for His mercy and for giving you the strength to overcome your faults. (John 16:23-24 & 33, Luke 11:9-10, Matt. 23:12, James 4:10, 1 Peter 5:5-6, Psalm 10:17 and Phil. 4:13)

8. Write down all those you have harmed and prepare yourself to make restitution. (Luke 19:1-10. Matt. 5:23-24, and Acts 9:1-6)

9. Make restitution when possible without hurting others. (Luke 15:11-32 and Eph. 5:15-18)

10. Examine yourself on a daily basis to see if you are being a doer of the Word and not just a hearer only. (James 1:22, Psalm 38:18, and I Cor. 7:9-10)

11. Continue to pray and give thanks to God for helping you to grow in the knowledge of Him and the strength to act on His Word. (Luke 18:1, Joshua 1:8, Psalm 1:1-3, II Tim. 2:15, and I Thess. 5:18)

12. Once you have achieved victory over alcohol and drugs, do not return to using but share your testimony with those who are suffering from alcohol and/or drug abuse and continue to do the Word. (Mark 16:15, Acts 1:8, and Matt. 10:8)
